History

VOCE (Italian word meaning “voice”) is an auditioned civic choral ensemble based in Mount Airy, NC, which performs choral literature from all the major style periods. The goal of VOCE is to provide outstanding concerts for the education and enjoyment of our audiences, and to provide life-long singing opportunities for our members. Many of the singers are from Mount Airy, NC; however some commute from as far away as Kernersville and North Wilkesboro in NC and the Galax and Hillsville areas in southwestern VA. The singers include music professionals, extensively-trained vocalists, and others who simply love singing. Ages range from high school to senior citizens.

VOCE was founded in 2002 by Sandy Beam. When Beam passed away, he left a legacy of talent and countless hours of quality performances. The current director is Patti Miller Fulk who is a former student of Beam’s and is carrying on the tradition of excellence in assuming the baton as Director of VOCE. VOCE is by audition only and meets Monday evenings at First Baptist Church in Dobson, NC from 7:00 to 9:00 September to May.
